INTRO
Dr. Wassermann and Dr. Collins have been partners in Umhlanga since 1997.​ Dr. Collins retired at the end of 2023 after an amazing contribution to providing excellent eye care in KZN. Dr. Brian Church joined forces with Dr. Wassermann in February 2022.

Dr. Wassermann studied MBChB at Pretoria University. He completed his internship and military training before working as a registrar in neurology for three years. ​He completed his studies as an ophthalmologist at the University of Witwatersrand and in 1991 became a fellow of the College of Ophthalmologists in both South Africa and the UK. He embarked on his journey in 1991, establishing his first practice in Richards Bay, later expanding to open the Umhlanga Practice in 1997 when he established the Lasersight group of refractive surgeons. In 2017, he initiated the Umhlanga Eye Institute, where most North Coast eye operations are performed.

While the practice caters to a broad spectrum of general eye diseases, Dr. Wassermann specializes in cataract and refractive surgery, keratoconus, glaucoma, and medical retina treatment.

Dr. Brian Church, commenced his medical journey at the University of Witwatersrand, earning his medical degree in 2009. After delving into general practice and emergency medicine, he transitioned to ophthalmology in 2016, specializing at Kimberley Hospital and McCords Provincial Eye Hospital. Dr. Church's academic pursuits culminated in a Masters in Medicine degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, complemented by diplomas and a fellowship at the College of Ophthalmology.

In 2022, as Dr. Church joined forces with Dr. Wassermann in private practice. Driven by a shared commitment to superior patient care, they offer a comprehensive range of services, with Dr. Church's proficiency in cataract surgery, neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma, medical retina, and keratoconus seamlessly complementing Dr. Wassermann's specialties. Together, they embody a collective vision of excellence, dedicated to preserving and enhancing the precious gift of sight to their patients.
